In this video, I cover three things to be aware of to keep your minnows alive longer at home. I thought this was worth sharing as we all spend a bit of money on bait, and if you can make it last a couple of weeks to months, it can cut down on the cost of each trip.
Reduce Stress
1. Water Temperature Changes
You only want to change around 20 to 25 percent of your water each time. You should also let your water rest for 24 hours so it can adjust to the room temperature your minnows are in.
2. Chlorine in water

Chlorine in your city water can also cause stress. If this an issue, just get some tap water conditioner from your local pet store.
3. Lack of Structure to Hide
Consider adding some rocks or items you have lying around that could act as structure. You will see your minnows start laying next to the structure. It helps them feel safe and therefore will reduce stress
Aeration & Bait Cooler
Avoid Batteries When Possible

If you have an aerator that can take wall power with an adapter, consider the adapter I found that allowed me to power my aerator from the house power instead of replacing expensive D batteries more frequently.
Quality Bait Cooler
Having a good quality bait cooler will reduce headaches on the water. You can use anything, including a 5-gallon pail, but a nice cooler with a good aerator is a privilege. I use the Engel cooler.
Summary
Thanks for reading the blog form of my youtube video. This is one of the first youtube videos I made under Captain Zach Fishing and was learning allot about audio, video, and editing. The content is genuine and that is what is important. I was killing my minnows after one trip with my chlorinated water, and I wanted an answer to solve that!
Cheers! 🎣
